Game review- Urban Rivals!

Overview:

Urban Rivals is a trading card game, or TCG, that is played right on your web browser. Both the site and card designs use a unique art style that gives the whole experience an original feel. New players are given 8 cards at random which is the minimum amount required for a deck. Game mechanics are simple and easy to pick up which makes Urban Rivals a much more casual TCG than Magic the Gathering Online. At the start of each match, both players are randomly given 4 cards from their decks and chose which of these cards will participate in each of the match’s four rounds. Players (and individual cards) gain experience after each match. Cards gain new abilities and increase in power as they rank up while players gain access to higher level channels and earn ‘clintz’ with which to purchase new cards.

During registration, players are allowed to choose among three deck styles-

Action- Brute power and damage
Danger- Dirty tricks and dirty abilities
Control- Protect yourself and disable enemy abilities

Game modes:

1) Solo mode: Improve your strategy by playing with the Urban Rivals AI and get prizes on winning.

2) Duel: Play with the AI and get new characters upon winning 5,10 and 15 victories.

3) Classic Mode: The original urban rivals mode, where you get to play with other players whose levels are similar to yours. Or you could take it to the fight club where you could challenge anyone regardless of the level.

4) TourneyPlay for one hour, win as many fights as you can and improve your ranking. You get points for winning as well as losing.

5) Survivor: Win consecutive battles to increase your jackpot and pocket a stash of clintz.

6) Elo mode: Improve your Elo score throughout the week and collect your winnings at the weekends if you have a elo score of over 1000.

7) Deathmatch- 16 players, 20 minutes. Winners get bonus battle points allowing them to level up.

The best thing about urban rivals is the five minute gameplay. It is an amazing game whether you are looking to kill some time or be the world's best. Besides, it is available on androis and ios, meaning you can play it on the go.

Pick your Web browser

Let's be clear- there is no such thing as a best browser! It depends on you. It depends on whether you are looking for speed, functionality etc. Below are the reviews of the three most popular free browsers found on the web (excluding IE).

Google Chrome

Official descriptionGoogle Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the Web faster, safer, and easier. Use one box for everything--type in the address bar and get suggestions for both search and Web pages. Thumbnails of your top sites let you access your favorite pages instantly with lightning speed from any new tab. Desktop shortcuts allow you to launch your favorite Web apps straight from your desktop.

Review:

1) Installation: Simple and easy. Download the installer from here. Run the online installation and you are done!

2) Interface: Stable and minimalist by default. You can make it complex by adding extensions. But beyond that Google maintains strict restrictions on adding visible add-ons. That means no toolbars or any undesired overlays, which at one point was a widespread standard practice.

3) Chrome web store: Google's web store from chrome provides thousands of rich features, extensions and games for download, and ways to customize the look of chrome. With over 31.88% of the world's internet traffic using chrome, new user developed themes and extensions come out every day.  Visit Chrome web store.

4) Incognito modeIncognito opens a new window that disables history recording, tracking cookies, and reduces the amount of traceable breadcrumbs from your usage. Contrary to popular belief, it does not mean you can freely browse the web for illegal use as your ISP can still see your traffic activity... so stay out of trouble. Extensions do not run in incognito mode unless you manually activate them.

5) SpeedChrome is fast. Really fast. As of version 27, Chrome is powered by Google's own V8 JavaScript engine that renders pages at speeds that have been setting a standard for modern browsers.

6) OthersChrome has some awesome features that make it very developer friendly: hardware acceleration for rendering 3D CSS effects, Google's own NaCl (Native Client) that allows secure execution of C and C++ codes within the browse. Chrome also allows Google users to sync their accounts, which comes with added benefits like restoring saved bookmarks and extensions in the cloud no matter what device you're on.

7) Cons: Almost none!

Verdict:
As I said there is no such thing as a best browser, but Google Chrome comes pretty close to claiming the title. All Google based sites work best on chrome. So if you are looking for functionality with minimalist design, this is the browser for you.

Mozilla Firefox

Official description: Mozilla Firefox is a fast, full-featured Web browser. Firefox includes pop-up blocking, tab-browsing, integrated Google search, simplified privacy controls, a streamlined browser window that shows you more of the page than any other browser and a number of additional features that work with you to help you get the most out of your time online.

Review:

1) Installation: Download and run the installer. Download here. (20 MB)

2) Interface: Firefox uses the trend started by Google Chrome - "less is more". Firefox is one of the last remaining browsers to still use separate address and search boxes, which is good for those who like to keep those two activities separate.

3) Advanced privacy modeThe "Do Not Track" privacy features in Firefox have been updated, bringing new "neutral" default settings; that means neither "track me" nor "do not track me." However, it's still unclear how the default setting will behave any differently than picking "track me."

4) Mozilla Market: Go to mozilla market. Mozilla's market place is almost as big as chrome, if not bigger(over 10000 extensions). Mozilla's marketplace had thousands of apps and extensions long before Google Chrome was even born.

5) Speed: Medium- Not too slow, not too fast, a bit better than IE.

6) OthersFirefox has ramped up its Social API in recent versions, allowing for direct connections with the Facebook platform; version 21 opens up more networks to connect with by integrating MSN Now, Cliqz, and Mixi services directly into the browser interface. Version 21 also adds a monitoring tool called "Heath Report." The Health Report includes a Raw Data feed showing every item that's been scanned and tracked.

7) Cons: Heavy on resources. Has lots of lags and may crash occasionally if running on low memory devices.

Verdict:
Firefox is a good browser. It has great functionality and is easily one of the best out there. Howerver I would not recommend it for low memory devices.

Opera browser

Official description: Opera is a Web browser that offers lots of features to let you take advantage of today's Web. Popular features: Opera Turbo speeds up browsing on slow connections. Opera Link can synchronize bookmarks with other computers and mobile phones.

Review:

1) InstallationInstalling Opera is a fast and short process, taking less than 2 minutes.

2) InterfaceA red Opera "O" logo button in the upper left corner reveals options and menus, while a wrench icon on the New Tab page allows you to customize Opera's forward-thinking Speed Dial. The bottom right corner of the status bar sports a dedicated zoom slider.

3) Privacy mode: It is similar to Google Chrome's incognito mode. Extensions can be turned off or on in private mode.

4) Speed (Opera Turbo): Speed is comparable to Google Chrome. However if you have a slow internet connection, you can turn on Opera Turbo, which makes it the fastest browser in slow internet connections. Opera turbo dynamically accelerates page loading times. However it is of no use if your internet connection is fast.

5) Opera add-ons: Opera doesn't have as many add-ons as Chrome or Firefox. However the few add-ons present are useful. Download add-ons here.

6) Others: One of Opera's lesser-known features is its integrated mail client. It's a reasonable alternative to Outlook, offering many similar features. It can handle importing mailbox files from Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Netscape, and Eudora, supports POP3 and IMAP, and quickly synced with Gmail when we added our account. There are other features in Opera, including tab previews, newsgroups support, a built-in session manager, and a fantastic array of customizations that rival Firefox.

7) ConsAlthough rumors persist about Web site incompatibility, I've yet to encounter any major site that Opera had problems with.

Verdict:
Opera is a good browser, especially on a slow network, if your network is fast enough, I would recommend other browsers.

My ratings: 8 out of 10                                                                            Read CNET's official review

Others:

1) Comodo Dragon- read CNET review
2) Apple Safari- read CNET review
3) Slim Browser- read CNET review

Conclusion: Well, that's about it. Hope it gives you an idea of which browser you want. My personal favorite. What's yours??
